Baseball
Franklin will be special guest at ORU's Diamond Dinner: Former St. Louis Cardinals closer Ryan Franklin is scheduled to be the special guest at the 2013 Oral Roberts Diamond Dinner.
The dinner is set for Friday, Jan. 18 at the Doubletree Warren Place. Doors will open at 6 p.m. for the silent auction, while dinner will be served at 7 p.m. The live auction follows.
Franklin spent 12 seasons in the majors from 1999-2011, with the last five in St. Louis. He had 82 saves from 2008-10 and pitched in the 2009 Major League All-Star Game. He also pitched for Seattle, Philadelphia and Cincinnati. Franklin, a native of Spiro, helped the U.S. Olympic team win a gold medal in 2000. He is currently a special assistant to Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak.

ORU's Bowen honored: Oral Roberts senior pitcher Drew Bowen was named third team All-American in the preseason by the National College Baseball Writers Association. The right hander from Tulsa finished last season with a 7-2 record, and a 1.95 earned run average in 87.2 innings, striking out 68.
Basketball
BTW/Douglass time changed: The starting times for the Oklahoma City Douglass at Booker T. Washington games on Saturday have been moved up two hours. The girls varsity game will start at 4:30 p.m., followed by the boys game at 6 p.m. The junior varsity games start at 2 p.m. Douglass has won three consecutive Class 4A boys state titles and this is its first visit to Tulsa during senior standout Stephen Clark's career.
Football
NEO's Scott honored: Northeastern A&M College sophomore offensive tackle P.J. Scott earned second team recognition on the National Junior College Athletic Association All-American team. Scott, a 6-foot-3, 290-pounder from Morris, started 21 games on the right side of the interior offensive line during his two years with the Golden Norsemen. He was instrumental in the Golden Norse winning the 2012 regular season Southwest Junior College Football Conference with a 5-1 record and finished 9-3 overall.
Volleyball
ORU duo honored: Oral Roberts' Sheina Fernandes and Bruna Silva were named to the Southland Conference Volleyball All-Academic first team. Fernandes, who majors in International Business, carries a 4.00 GPA. Silva carries a 3.70 GPA in Computer Information Technology.
