Jean Curtis McCoy passed away Monday, December 10, 2012, from natural causes. “Bubba” as he was known to his family was 84 years old. Jean was born April 4, 1928, in Waco, Texas. He was the only child of Euel Reid McCoy and Leila Dell Amis McCoy. Jean is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sally Barbre McCoy. A daughter Janet McCoy Mercer, son-in-law Jon Mercer and Janet’s daughter Samantha Jean Griffith. A son John Curtis McCoy, daughter-in-law Laura Ellis McCoy, their children John Barbre McCoy and Cassie Anne McCoy. A son, James Barbre McCoy, daughter-in-law Susan Dunagan McCoy and their daughters, Mackenzie Lee McCoy and Mercedes Lee McCoy. Upon accepting a position for Gulf Oil, Jean moved to Tulsa in 1952, where he met and married the love of his life Sally Barbre. After several years of marriage Jean left Gulf to help run the family businesses Looboyle’s and Consumers Oil. The companies diversified and grew with Jean becoming the manager for Pennant Aviation. It was through Pennant that Jean became a pilot and his love of flying began. Jean was an accomplished pilot and flew Sally and the kids on many trips. After Pennant, Jean went on to manage Allied Printing Corporation. Jean had a diverse career and opportunities that allowed him to become a partner and operator of Consumers Service Stations. After Consumer’s was sold Jean helped manage Major Real Estate Investments and eventually McCoy Group Properties where he was still active until his passing. Jean had an incredible sense of adventure for life which he shared with Sally and passed that legacy on to his children. Jean and Sally loved to travel the world playing golf. Jean was an incredible athlete even into his 80’s. He excelled in swimming while at Baylor and was the captain of the swim team. Jean grew up hunting and fishing with his father and carried that tradition on with his sons and granddaughters. Jean was a world class handball player an outstanding snow skier and water skier, as well as an excellent golfer, having last hit the links the Wednesday before his death. Jean was a long time member of Southern Hill Country Club, The Tulsa Club, and The Golf Club of Oklahoma. Jean never met a stranger. He always had a story or a joke to tell and many a story was exchanged on the golf course with his friends. Jean loved to share stories of his family. A 32nd Degree Mason, Jean was also a member of The Royal Order of Jesters. “Bubba” loved his family dearly and was so proud of each member. He loved nothing more then having the whole family together. Many fond memories were made at the family home at Long Lake, Wisconsin. A Memorial Service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Main Sanctuary, 709 S. Boston Ave. Tulsa, OK, Tuesday, December 18th 2012, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contribution in Jeans honor may be made to The American Diabetes Association, The American Heart Association, or First Presbyterian Church, Tulsa, OK.
