OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma City Fire Department plans to honor three people as citizen heroes for their actions when a car carrying a woman and her two children caught in a car fire.

The department says Misty McPike was driving with her two children in northwest Oklahoma City on Dec. 5 when another driver yelled that her car was on fire. McPike stopped and Frank Hopper and Queta Washington also stopped and each removed a child from their car seat.

The department says the entire passenger compartment of the car then caught fire — apparently from leaking fluid.

The two were taken to the car of former Nevada paramedic Esta Crowe who checked them for injury. The three were not injured.

Hopper, Washington and Crowe will be honored Friday.
