EUFAULA - A minister who is charged in McIntosh County District Court with possession of child pornography has been released on $10,000 bond.

Charles Saviers, 78, was arrested Friday afternoon after reportedly pornographic pictures of at least two teenage boys were found on a computer and in prints at his home, police said.

Associate District Judge Jim Pratt entered a not guilty plea on Saviers' behalf and ordered him back to court on March 20.

The judge agreed to Assistant District Attorney Crieg Rittenhouse's request that Saviers be ordered to stay away from juvenile boys.

Saviers is listed on the United Methodist Church's website as the pastor of a church in Alderson, a town of about 260 residents five miles east of McAlester.

He also is listed with the Lake Eufaula United Ministry, an organization that supplies lay ministers for church services for campers at area lakes during the summer months.

A search warrant was issued for Saviers' home in the Eagle Bluff development southeast of Eufaula last week after two teenagers who were not associated with the photographs reportedly found the pictures.

"They were young boys doing odd jobs around his residence, and they came across some child porn and turned it over to law enforcement," said McIntosh County Sheriff's Detective Tanya French.

She said Saviers lives alone. He was not home when the boys made their discovery, French said.

"When he found out the kids had taken the pictures, he contacted them and attempted to get them back," she said.

French said Saviers returned home while authorities were searching the house.

She said she is trying to interview the boys in the photographs, who reportedly live in McAlester, but as of Monday evening, she had not been able to reach them or their families.

She said there could be other victims, and if so, she encourages them to call her at 918-689-2526.
