On December 15, 2012—her 94th birthday—Jean joined the loved ones who preceded her in death: her devoted husband Carl W. Rice, cherished sons Roger and Larry Rice, her adventurous grandson Jeff Rice, and her wonderful sisters Pauline Miller, Marie Watson, JoAnn Duncan, and Francine Quisenberry. Jean leaves behind her son David and his wife Mary Rice, daughter-in-law Dawn Rice, grandchildren Jason (Dara) Rice, Jeremy (Canaan) Rice, Kimberly Star, Kristin Rice, and Sally Rice, Crystal, Candice, and Angela Howarth. Jean was born in Briartown, OK on December 15, 1918 and moved to Tulsa in 1935. She joined Phoenix Baptist Church in 1936, moved her letter to Carbondale Baptist Church in 1956, and in 1961 joined Red Fork Baptist Church. She held class offices in all three churches. Jean was a member of the Railroad Veteran Club and the National Association of Retired Veterans. Jean married Carl W. Rice in 1938 in Muskogee, OK, and they were married almost 53 years. Jean worked for American Airlines for eight years, after which she worked for the Auto License Tax Commission. She loved to volunteer at the Tulsa Food Bank and was known for her strawberry and pecan pies. “We are going to miss your big smile and your bright blue eyes. We love you!” A graveside service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery, located at 51st Street and Memorial, 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 19, 2012.
