Getting closer and closer to the holidays, all is getting quiet on the Style Scene front, except for the sound of rustling wrapping paper! This early? That is, if you are the type to get those presents in order sooner rather than later.
As a matter of fact, according to a survey by Scotch Brand tapes, 1 in 4 people wrap their holiday gifts one or two days before giving the gift, and 22 percent of people do their wrapping three to six days before the occasion.
To get you thinking about how to make this year's gifts really stand out, Lia Griffith, Ellinee blogger and winner of the 2012 Scotch Brand Most Gifted Wrapper contest, offers these tips.
Keep it natural: Look to nature for inspiration and use pine branches, holly, feathers, grapevine twigs or pinecones to embellish a package. Also, try using brown paper bags or recycled newspaper to wrap the gift itself.
Design your own patterned paper: Use colored tapes to add texture to wraps and create your own patterned paper. Scotch Expressions Tapes can be applied to solid papers - or use the white side of non-holiday themed papers that you may have leftover from birthdays and other celebrations.
Make your own gift tags: Print your own gift tags. Online sites such as Etsy.com or Ellinee.com have fun patterns and designs that you can print using your home printer. Or print a photo of the recipient to use as a gift tag. This also doubles as an embellishment.
Tie it up: If you've run out of ribbon or don't know how to make one of those impressive bows, garden twine or baker's twine are great tools for attaching accents or even as a replacement for bows.
Make DIY paper accents: Transform red cocktail napkins into a poinsettia or make your own snowflakes or bows out of paper. These simple and inexpensive accents are sure to get a reaction.
Discount store decorations: From holiday ornaments and foam berries to little toys and figurines, check out your local dollar stores for some great inexpensive items that make wonderful embellishments. And if you're pressed for time, you can always look around the house and see what you can find.
