Drought may prompt conservation measures in Norman

NORMAN — Norman could face water conservation measures as soon as next month as the levels of Lake Thunderbird continue to drop.
Randy Worden is the executive director of the organization that monitors water quality and supply in Lake Thunderbird. Worden said his board will send out a letter in the next few weeks asking Midwest City, Del City and Norman to reduce usage of the lake water supply by 10 percent.
The Norman Transcript reports that Del City and Midwest City have sufficient groundwater supplies to counteract any reduction from Lake Thunderbird. But city officials in Norman said conservation measures will be needed.
Worden saod Lake Thunderbird water levels are reaching near-record lows, and that extended drought conditions are expected.
