QUINTON — Authorities are working to identify human remains that were found near the Pittsburg County and Haskell County line.

Pittsburg County Undersheriff Richard Bedford said the remains were found Dec. 13 on a ranch north of Quinton. Pittsburg County Investigator Tommy Lyons said they haven't identified the remains but that they belong to a male.

Lyons tells the McAlester News-Capital that the remains had been there about one to two years.

The state medical examiner's office will determine the cause and manner of death.

Bedford said authorities are checking missing persons reports to see if anyone had disappeared in the area.
