Hit-and-run crash injures woman, 80; info sought

Tulsa police are seeking information about the hit-and-run crash that injured an 80-year-old pedestrian on Cherry Street this weekend.

Joann Carlson was hit in a crosswalk at 15th Street and Rockford Avenue about 7:30 p.m. Saturday, police said.

Authorities believe that an eastbound white or silver sedan - possibly a Lincoln, Cadillac or Ford Taurus - struck Carlson and did not stop.

"The vehicle was a newer model and had nice tires and rims," Officer Leland Ashley said.

Carlson, who suffered several injuries, was taken to St. John Medical Center, he said.

A family member told the Tulsa World that Carlson remained hospitalized in critical condition on Tuesday.

Anyone with more information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS, online at tulsaworld.com/crimestoppers or via text message at CRIMES. Text tips should begin with "Tip918." Tipsters can be anonymous and could receive a reward.

BA man accused of lewd proposals outside library

BROKEN ARROW - A 45-year-old man who is accused of making lewd proposals to two juveniles outside the Broken Arrow Public Library was arrested Tuesday.

A woman called police about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday after she heard Charles Edward Purtell proposition her 12-year-old daughter, who was playing outside the library at 300 W. Broadway Ave., according to Purtell's arrest report.

Purtell then attempted to scale a fence between the library and his house in the 200 block of West College Street, the caller told police.

The woman's 14-year-old son told police that Purtell also offered to pay him for sex acts, the arresting officer wrote.

When officers arrived, Purtell, who reportedly was intoxicated, was found lying in his front yard.

He was arrested on two complaints of making a lewd or indecent proposal to a minor after a felony conviction and is being held in the Tulsa Jail with bail set at $100,000.

A charge of lewd or indecent proposals to a child filed against him in 2004 was dismissed, but he pleaded no contest to two assault charges, including aggravated assault and battery on a police officer, in that case.

Quinton teacher charged with rape of teen student

Antrich
McALESTER - Statutory rape charges have been filed against a substitute teacher who is accused of having sex with a 17-year-old Quinton High School student.

Andrea Antrich, 24, was charged in Pittsburg County District Court on Friday with five counts of second-degree rape.

Prosecutors allege that Antrich engaged in sexual activity with a 17-year-old boy in October and November, court documents state. Oklahoma law makes it illegal for a teacher to have sex with an underage student, whether or not the acts are consensual.

According to an affidavit, a police officer was called to Quinton High School on Nov. 29 to investigate allegations that a teacher was having a sexual relationship with a student.

While in the presence of the officer and his mother, the boy said he and Antrich had sex at the woman's home after school.

During interviews with investigators, Antrich, who had been working as a substitute teacher, admitted to having had sex with the student, the affidavit says.

She has been released from jail on bond.

January court date set for former OSU student

Cochran
STILLWATER - A former Oklahoma State University student will make his next court appearance on three sexual battery charges in January.

Nathan Micheal Cochran, 22, was set to appear in Payne County District Court for a bond-reduction hearing Wednesday, but the hearing was unnecessary because Cochran had posted bond soon after his initial court appearance, court records show.

Associate District Judge Katherine Thomas set his bail at $100,000 on Dec. 12. Cochran was arrested that night and made his first appearance Thursday, when Special Judge R.L. Hert decided to keep his bail as set until the hearing.

Cochran's preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 7.

The charges stem from assaults reportedly committed against two male students.

Last month OSU's Office of Student Conduct investigated claims that Cochran sexually assaulted five students and found him responsible for four sexual-misconduct violations.

Cochran was suspended from the university for three years.

The Stillwater Police Department began its own investigation into the allegations Dec. 7 after a reporter from the campus newspaper asked for comment.

Student made drugs to fund education, police say

Teague
STILLWATER - An Oklahoma State University student intended to manufacture and sell the drug ecstasy to pay for his college education, police said.

Michael Thomas Teague, 24, was charged Tuesday with attempting to manufacture methylenedioxymethamphetamine - known as ecstasy - as well as drug trafficking, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of possession of controlled substances without a tax stamp.

He was arrested Nov. 25 and was charged Nov. 27 with unlawful discharging of a firearm, breaking and entering, and public intoxication, records show.

According to a police affidavit, Teague had hallucinated that people were breaking into his apartment to steal his television, so he fired numerous shots, thinking he was killing the intruders. Teague had used crystal methamphetamine earlier, Stillwater Police Capt. Randy Dickerson alleged.

Police found illegal drugs, chemicals and chemistry equipment in his apartment, according to a search warrant affidavit.

Teague told police he was manufacturing ecstasy to fund his education, Dickerson said.

Teague was released from jail Dec. 4 and has a court date Jan. 7.

Tulsa woman is charged with workers comp fraud

OKLAHOMA CITY - Attorney General Scott Pruitt's office has charged a Tulsa woman with workers compensation fraud on an allegation that she illegally obtained nearly $10,000 in disability benefits.

Carolin Reinschmiedt was arrested on unrelated charges during a traffic stop Dec. 7. She was released from jail on bond on Tuesday, jail records show.

Her first name is spelled Carolyn in some court records.

In the fraud charge, filed in August, Reinschmiedt is accused of submitting a claim in 2010 saying she injured her left shoulder, back and neck and complaining of severe pain.

Investigators say surveillance video shows the woman shopping, getting in a car, and lifting and carrying objects with no visible signs of discomfort.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 10.
