A Muldrow man died and a woman was injured in a two-vehicle, alcohol-related crash near Sallisaw on Saturday, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

Henry Mac Ellis, 70, died at St. Francis Hospital after the 1990 Chevrolet Lumina he was driving collided with a 1995 Chevrolet S-10 pickup driven by James Richard Ater, 67, of Sallisaw just after 5 p.m., the OHP said.

Troopers said the accident occurred when Ellis' northbound vehicle failed to yield to a stop sign and crashed into Ater's eastbound pickup on a county road just east of Sallisaw.

Ater refused treatment at the scene, OHP said.

Marilyn Ann Ater, 67, also of Sallisaw, a passenger in the pickup, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at St. Edwards Hospital in Fort Smith, Ark., troopers said.

Ellis was reportedly wearing a seatbelt, the report said. The Aters were not wearing restraints, OHP said.

Troopers reported Ellis as being impaired at the time of the crash and attributed the cause of the wreck to driving under the influence.
