Speaks brothers lead Edison over East Central

Brothers Brian and Darius Speaks combined for 37 points as Edison defeated East Central 56-51 in overtime Friday night at East Central.
Older brother Brian did much of his damage in the first half, scoring 12 points. Darius scored 18 of his game-high 21 points after halftime.
"Those two are special, they are very talented kids. I couldn't be happier for them," said Edison head coach Michael Parrish.
Edison (4-3) led 36-27 after three quarters, but William Goree and Oklahoma football commit Stanvon Taylor combined for 14 points in the final quarter to lead a furious Cardinal rally and send the game to overtime.
Taylor was the only Cardinal to score in extra time, with all four of his points coming from the foul line.
Taylor led all Cardinals with 19 points. Goree added 13.
The two teams were tied at 20 at halftime before Edison dominated the third quarter, outscoring East Central 16-9. East Central (2-6) then went on a 14-5 run in the final quarter to tie the game at 41 with 2:51 remaining.
In overtime, Edison controlled much of the action before East Central cut the deficit to 52-51 with 48 seconds left. Edison then scored the last four points to put away the win.
Edison will play Class B No. 1 Arnett in its opener for next week's Tournament of Champions at the Mabee Center.
East Central 68, Edison 51 (girls): East Central outscored Edison 22-6 in the third quarter to improve to 4-1.
East Central had balanced scoring with Darreion Clark leading with 12. Being aggressive to get into the lane, East Central shot 17-of-29 from the free-throw line in the second half.
The two teams went back and forth in the fourth quarter but Edison couldn't make it close
Edison (4-3) was led by Shayla Dobbins who finished with 19 points, going 15-of-20 from the foul line.
