Authorities are investigating an apparent homicide after a man was shot after he allegedly attempted to steal a vehicle, according to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
Langston police were called to the 400 block of South Oklahoma Street about 6:30 p.m. Friday in reference to a shooting, the OSBI said.
When officers arrived, they found 50-year-old Michael DeWayne Milton dead with multiple gunshot wounds.
The Langston Police Department then contacted the OSBI to assist in the homicide investigation.
Authorities were told by witnesses that Milton was seen stealing a vehicle from the front yard of a home.
Witnesses also told police the homeowner tried to stop Milton by reaching through the driver’s side window and removing the key from the ignition.
Milton then drove away while the man was holding onto the window before another man shot at the vehicle, hitting Milton multiple times, authorities said.
No one was arrested, OSBI said. No other injuries were reported.
The OSBI said a district attorney will determine if the shooting was justified.
