My nieces have explained to me the modern, scientific methods of parenting concerning discipline: They never spank their children, they reason with them. Spanking a child teaches them violence.
It's my understanding neither parents nor teachers can spank without being arrested.
I got a spanking once when I was little. I was playing in the street and my father told me to get out. Then he tried to reason with me: "A car might come along ..." I thought to myself, "If a car comes along I'll just jump out of the street." Then he came with a switch. The pain didn't hurt as much as my pride. I never disobeyed my father again.
There have been almost 50 school shootings since 2000. There weren't any school shootings back in my day.
It's "cruel" now to spank; it's "cruel" to call a person an illegal immigrant; "cruel" to deny gay people the "right" to be legally married.
I think the cruelty to the next generation is to inherit a world devoid of all common sense.
