A mailbox that looked like a catfish was blown up by vandals late Thursday, Tulsa police said.

The explosion was heard in the 7500 block of South 88th East Avenue shortly before 10 p.m., Sgt. Chris Moudy said.

A group of four or five teenagers was then seen driving away in a maroon pickup, he said.

The youths apparently had destroyed the mailbox with what Moudy described as a "Drano bomb."

He said the vandals evidently targeted the mailbox -- which he said belonged to an outdoors enthusiast -- because of its unusual design.

"I think it was just kids wanting to see a mailbox shaped like a fish blow up," Moudy said.

The Police Department's Bomb Squad was notified, he said, adding that no one was injured.
