Family-friendly fun
For families with young children, New Year's Eve festivities may have to take a different turn. But no one said that means you can't still celebrate.
If you're staying home this year, consider ordering your favorite pizza as you settle in to watch the ball drop on TV. But put in your order a little while before you actually want to eat it, because New Year's Eve is one of the busiest days of the year for pizza parlors.
And consider popping out a board game or two to enjoy with the kids while you wait for the ball to drop.
But for those who want to try something a little different, below are several options to ring in the new year away from home, family-style.
A night of skating
Skateland, 1150 S. Sheridan Road
7 p.m.-1 a.m.
Ring in the new year while skating. A slice of pizza, drink, party favor and skate rental is $15 per person. A balloon drop takes place at midnight, with prizes in the balloons.
For more 918-836-3344.
Race into New Year
River West Festival Park, 2100 S. Jackson Ave.
At this event, you'll run straight into the new year. A 1-mile fun run starts at 11 p.m., and the 5k will start at 11:45 p.m. Noisemakers, fireworks, music and a laser light show will be part of the event.
Food and drinks will be available after the run.
Advance registration is $20 ($30 with a shirt) and free for children younger than 12. Registration prices increase by $5 on race day.
For more, call Kathy Hoover at 918-805-690 or visit tulsaworld.com/raceintoNY2013
Swing in the new year
Southminster Presbyterian Church activity center, 35th Place and Peoria Avenue
8 p.m.-12:30 a.m.
TOSS, The Oklahoma Swing Syndicate, will host a New Year's Eve shindig that boasts a performance from The Zuits, along with beginner swing dance lessons at 8 p.m. and dancing 8:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m.
Bring a snack to share, and you'll be entered into a drawing for door prizes. A non-alcoholic toast will be made at midnight. All ages welcome, but minors will need parental permission to attend (visit tulsaworld.com/tosstulsa for consent form or for more information). Admission is $5.
They party, you party
Bounce U, 8922 S. Memorial Drive, Suite A
6:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m.
Parents who want to catch their own party can drop off the kids at Bounce U. For $35, kids ages 4 and older can enjoy dinner, snacks, games and bouncing. RSVP's are requested.
