The Golden Globe nominations are out, the Oscar nominations arrive in two weeks - Jan. 10, the earliest date ever - and a majority of the candidates are playing in theaters right now.

But for those who want to stay home to get an early start on their best-of-2012 movie viewing, some of the candidates are already available on DVD.

It's an honor just to be nominated, and these are some of the key honorees this awards season, available for home viewing.

'The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel'

I'm convinced that Anglophiles who had finished the last season of "Downton Abbey" were by May yearning so deeply for something fresh that they made a hit out of this early summer film about Brits retiring on the cheap in India. Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Tom Wilkinson and Bill Nighy made this a trip worth taking. The picture recently snagged a Screen Actors Guild nomination for best ensemble (its equivalent of a best picture nod).

'Moonrise Kingdom'

The new film from Wes Anderson features damaged adults as all his films do (like "The Royal Tenenbaums" and "Rushmore"). But his focus in this one is on the young people on a New England island in the summer of 1965. This first-love comedy is such an ensemble piece that no one person may score an acting nomination, but this is still among the favorites to land an Oscar nomination for best picture.

'Bernie'

For those who thought Jack Black would never be mentioned at awards time, check out his comically droll performance as Bernie. He's the nicest guy you would ever want to meet, and he is so helpful in his Texas community. Just don't push him too far because every man has his breaking point. Bernie looks a lot like Shirley MacLaine.

'Hope Springs'

It's no surprise when Meryl Streep receives a nomination, and she was a big winner last year with "The Iron Lady." The Golden Globes nominated her this year for her comedic drama about a woman seeking marital counseling after determining that her marriage is on life-support. Bonus: This movie is much better than "The Iron Lady."

'Salmon Fishing in the Yemen'

This surprise player with three Golden Globe nominations is a sweet romantic comedy about a fisheries expert (played by Ewan McGregor) who meets his match in a financial adviser (Emily Blunt) who's helping a Yemeni sheik in his effort to bring the sport of fly fishing to his country. The movie, McGregor and Blunt all received nominations in the comedy category.
