Police are looking for two men who choked and sexually assaulted a woman before they were chased off by a person driving by.
Investigators are also searching for the witness who chased away the assailants to get further descriptions of what he or she saw.
Shortly before 3 a.m. Dec. 21, a woman was walking west on Pine Street near North Sheridan Road when two men approaching from the east called out to her, police said.
She cut through a parking lot, and they followed her to the 6100 block of East Pine Street, when one of the men grabbed her from behind and pushed her into a ditch, police said.
One of the men used her necklace to choke her until she lost consciousness. She came to with the man sexually assaulting her while the other assailant, a white male, stood by and watched “and told the black male that he was ‘next,’?” police said.
The victim told police that a vehicle drove up and yelled out of the window for the men to stop. They then ran southbound along a privacy fence away from the victim.
One of the men was described as black, in his mid- to late 20s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and between 150 and 170 pounds. His hair was in short twists, similar to dreadlocks, and he had a tattoo on the right side of his neck. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, dark pants and a large metal belt buckle.
The other man was described as white, in his mid- to late-20s with a similar build but thinner. He had straight, short, blonde hair and was wearing a baggy white T-shirt and light blue baggy jeans.
Both men smelled of marijuana, police said.
The witness who chased the subjects away has not been identified, but police wish to speak to him or her to take a statement.
