Letter to the Editor: One parade, please

Every year it appears that the war on Christmas continues to ensue. What troubles me, however, is the fact that we now have two parades celebrating this same time of year - one inclusive and the other exclusive. To me, it seems only logical to have one parade that both celebrates and represents the Tulsa community.
The entire community of Tulsa does not celebrate Christmas. Personally, I applaud Larry Fox's efforts and initiative to stand by a parade that allows the entire community to participate.
This time of year is about coming together and enjoying each others' company. I don't see how we can achieve this if we remain a highly divided community with many people shutting themselves out from their fellow community members. I hope people will consider this before next year's parade(s).
I am not trying to force anyone to accept the religions of other people, but I am a large advocate for respect. I recognize that this community has every right to have a separate Christmas parade. However, I also feel that people, especially our youth, can gain more respect and better understanding toward their peers by knowing about their entire community, rather than just one part of it.
