All Souls church to host New Year's Eve party

All Souls Unitarian Church will present a New Year's Eve party starting at 6 p.m. Monday and running until 2 a.m.

All Souls First Night is a free, family-friendly event and includes games and activities, worship, a potluck and more.

Jared Tyler will kick off the evening with a ritual remembering of the past year at 6 p.m., Bishop Carlton Pearson will lead a New Year, New YOU service at 10 p.m. and a dance party begins at 12:30 a.m.

January Series webcast to show at First Presbyterian

First Presbyterian Church, 709 S. Boston Ave., will be one of 38 remote webcast locations worldwide for Calvin College's January Series.

The series brings together nationally known speakers offering a Christian perspective on a wide variety of current issues.

"Whatever's happening in the world, we are talking about it," said Kristi Potter, director of the series.

The free one-hour public lectures will be shown at 11:30 a.m. weekdays from Jan. 3 through Jan. 23. Total attendance last year was nearly 40,000.
