Nothing says New Year's resolution more than a new exercise regimen.
Tulsa offers several events to start the year off right in celebration of fitness and the holidays.
Participants literally run into 2013 for the Race Into the New Year 5k at River Parks West Amphitheater, which starts at 11:45 p.m. Monday after an 11 p.m. fun run.
Then at 10 a.m. Tuesday, the Commitment Day 5k begins in Veterans Park.
For those with a sense of adventure and a penchant for costumes, the Polar Bear Plunge - involving three pools and two miles - will be held Tuesday beginning at 12:15 p.m. with the costume contest. Register at tulsaworld.com/polarplunge
Race Into the New Year: This is the eighth year for this event. The course loops around Zink Lake with a stop for champagne or sparkling cider and music along the way.
Party hats, horns and noisemakers are provided, and participants also receive a long-sleeved T-shirt. There will be a heated tent with a DJ and food, including black-eyed peas, cornbread, cookies, sodas and other treats.
Walk-in registration and preregistered packet pickup is at RunnersWorld, 4329 S. Peoria Ave., until 2 p.m. Monday or at the event beginning at 10 p.m.
Prices are $20 and $30. This year's event benefits the Tulsa Spotlight Theater.

Commitment Day 5k run/walk: This is the first year for this event sponsored by Life Time Fitness. Tulsa is one of 26 cities where the fitness company is sponsoring runs on New Year's Day.
Life Time spokeswoman Chelsea Ruka said a Zumba instructor will lead the 5k walkers in a "dance walk," and a wagon with a jukebox will be pulled throughout the entire race.
A cool-down yoga session will be held after the run, and black-eyed peas will be served at the finish line.
Ruka said 523 people had already signed up. The course begins at the park and heads south to 34th Street on Riverside Drive and back.
Participants can register starting at 8 a.m. on the day of the event or online at tulsaworld.com/commit
Prices are $34 for Life Time members; $39 for nonmembers; and youths 17 and younger get in free with a paid adult.
Participants receive a T-shirt and Commitment Day journal.
Life Time has one fitness center in the Tulsa area at 10642 S. Memorial Drive in Bixby.
