BROKEN ARROW — A Broken Arrow man charged in three drunken-driving cases in recent years was arrested after a police officer saw him reportedly fleeing the scene of a fourth apparent alcohol-related wreck Saturday.

Brian Dale Pauley, 31, was arrested around 6:45 p.m. after a Broken Arrow police officer saw a blue Ford Explorer reverse and drive from a crash scene near 1000 N. Aspen (145th East) Ave., according to Pauley’s arrest report.

The officer attempted to stop the Explorer, but the driver wove in and out of traffic striking the curb several times and ran a red light as the officer pursued the him, the report states. The SUV was eventually rendered inoperable by three flat tires sustained during the crash and stopped near Aspen Avenue and West Omaha (51st) Street, the arresting officer wrote.

Pauley was detained while attempting to walk away from the Explorer.

The officer observed burns to Pauley's face from the Explorer’s deployed airbags and noticed a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and person, the report states. Pauley was also reportedly “very unsteady on his feet” and had slow, slurred speech and red, watery eyes, according to the officer.

Pauley was booked into the Tulsa Jail on complaints of leaving the scene of an injury accident, driving under the influence of alcohol -- third or more offense, attempting to elude an officer, failure to carry insurance verification and an outstanding warrant from Wagoner County. He is being held without bond.

In a 2007 Tulsa County case, he pleaded guilty to charges including DUI and leaving the scene of an accident which resulted in property damage. Pauley received a one-year suspended jail sentence and was ordered to pay $500 in fines and complete 80 hours community service.

Wagoner County prosecutors filed two aggravated DUI charges against Pauley in 2010. One case was dismissed. The other was amended to felony DUI and sentencing was deferred until 2015. A warrant was issued for his arrest in July 2011 after he failed to pay fines and fees associated with the latter case.
