Letter to the Editor: Wonderful memorial

I saw a story about the vast amount of mail going to the people of Newtown, Conn. It's good to see so many people trying to help.

My daughter told me how much better she and her teenage daughter were getting along since the shootings. The tragedy reminded them to release the little things that get in the way of relationships and show what was really important - their love for each other. I've heard many people say that they have hugged their children more often.

The important question to me is why weren't we hugging them more before? That's true for our spouses and parents as well.

Wouldn't it be a wonderful memorial to those little kids and brave teachers for every parent in America to be more kind and loving to their kids? Can't we keep this going? To criticize or to love is a choice. One causes pain, the other joy. We can do it.

Most of us have been doing this for more than two weeks - let's keep it up.
