Letter to the Editor: It's not the gun

My heart goes out to the families that lost loved ones in the Newtown, Conn., school shooting. I too have lost a loved one right before Christmas and it is absolutely devastating.

However, it's not the gun that kills people, it's the person. If he didn't have access to a gun he would have used knives, bombs or even his car to take out people. We need to look at why people are so angry and violent.

Parents are responsible for their children while growing up. They need to be loving parents not a best friend. Remember: What goes into hearts and minds eventually comes out.

When we provide violent video games for children where points are earned for shooting people, why are we so surprised when they do?

When our society continues to produce movies about promiscuity or adultery we become conditioned and see it as a normal lifestyle. Thus we have a whole generation of broken homes and babies raising babies.

It's time we fill the hearts and minds of our children with God, family and good.
