Purdue interim coach Patrick Higgins was asked what might be legitimate keys to victory for his team and the first words out of his mouth were "control the line of scrimmage. That's going to be big." Interpret that to mean Higgins expects this game to be won in the trenches. The most intriguing trench battle will be OSU's offensive line against a Purdue defensive line headlined by second-team AP All-American Kawann Short, who is ranked as the nation's third-best senior defensive tackle prospect by NFL draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. OSU ranks seventh nationally in fewest sacks allowed. Short ranks third all-time among Purdue interior linemen in career sacks.
