January 1, 1945 - September 18, 2012 On this day, we celebrate the birthday of Mike Crowe who passed away in Charlotte, NC at age 67 following a brief illness. Mike was a resident of Tulsa, OK for many years where he worked at YUBA Heat Transfer and spent 15 years on the softball fields and basketball courts as a sports official with ASA and youth sports programs. Mike moved from Tulsa in 1996 due to his wife’s job transfer to California followed by additional transfers to New Jersey and to Charlotte in 2002. Mike was born in Hot Springs, AR, the son of Mona and Hiram Crowe. Though he moved from Arkansas, Mike remained a loyal Razorback fan. Mike retired in 2006 and enjoyed returning to Oklahoma and Arkansas to visit family and friends, the “boys trips” to Vegas for March Madness, and annual race season at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs. Mike was proud of the love shared by his family - wife of 35 years Paula (formerly Hopkins) of Charlotte, sister Betty Crowe Fry of Hot Springs, AR, son Robert and daughter-in-law Jenise Crowe and family of Snoqualmie, WA, daughter Michelle Crowe of Hot Springs, AR, step-daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Allan Luker and family of Broken Arrow, OK, and step-daughter Amy Bond and family of Tulsa, sister-and brother-in-law Penny and Kent Bergman of Pryor, OK, and mother-in-law Lawana Hopkins also of Pryor with whom Mike shared a special bond. Mike had 10 grandchildren and was excited about a first greatgrandchild due this spring. Mike’s family also included one niece and four nephews. To honor Mike’s memory, the family will gather in Hot Springs in April to attend the annual running of the Arkansas Derby, a fitting tribute to a man who finished first in life’s race. This obituary was published in the Tulsa World on 1/1/2013.
