Alva Thomas White Sr. was born on October 29, 1924, and passed from this life on December 29, 2012. Tom was the youngest of five children born in Laurel Mississippi to the late Burrell and Sallie Mae White. He was also preceded in death by his wife Ella Sue White, sister Elise Cleveland, and brothers Lindsey and Marion. Tom enlisted in the U.S. Navy on July 4, 1940 at the age of 16. During his distinguished career he served in both the Pacific and Asiatic campaigns of WWII as a Deep Sea Diver and Hospital Corpsman. During the Korean War he was detached to the Marine 1st Division to serve in the Chosin Reservoir campaign as a Hospital Corpsman and Surgical Assistant. Following his Naval career, Tom was a pharmaceutical salesman for both Strassenburgh Laboratories, and Johnson and Johnson. He was affectionately given the nickname ‘MUDCAT’ by the Tulsa Area Medical Association for his lifelong allegiance to his Mississippi roots, and referred to as ‘DOC’ White by his many friends and fellow members of Tulsa chapter of “THE CHOSIN FEW”.. Tom is survived by his sister Mildred of Helen Georgia, daughters Deborah and Alexandra, son Tom and wife Cheryl, six grandchildren - Joshua and wife Kristi, Susan, Matthew and wife Marci, Stephen, Jeremy, and Megan, and five great-grandchildren Addyson, Liam. Aiden, Avery, and Harper. Services 10 AM, Thursday, January 3, 2013, Moore’s Southlawn Chapel. Interment 2 PM, Thursday, Ft. Gibson National Cemetery.
