Woman injured as shots are fired into 2 apartments
A woman was injured when several shots were fired into two occupied apartments Tuesday night, police said.
The 22-year-old victim was taken to a hospital in serious condition, an EMSA spokeswoman said. Police reported the victim's age as 23.
Police were called about 8:15 p.m. to the Meadows Apartments in the 2800 block of South 115th East Avenue to investigate several reports of shots fired, Capt. Mike Williams said.
Officers arrived to find the victim in an apartment with injuries to her head, he said. It was unclear whether the woman was grazed by a bullet or injured by shrapnel, Williams said.
Between seven and nine shots were fired into the apartments, he said. Another apartment had a window shot out, but no injuries were reported.
"It was as if the individual was running across and shooting," Williams said.
One young child was in the apartment with the victim when the shooting occurred, Williams said. At least two children were in the other apartment.
Williams said police were still investigating and aren't sure yet if her apartment or the other one that was hit were targeted.
No description of the shooter was available.

State troopers were not dispatched to any collisions in Tulsa County during a special holiday enforcement operation, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.
Nine people were jailed for suspicion of driving under the influence, and four others were arrested on drug offenses, according to a news release issued Tuesday.
Fifteen state troopers issued 48 speeding tickets, 14 tickets for driving under suspension and 139 warnings for traffic offenses, OHP Lt. George Brown said.
The operation began at 7 p.m. Monday and ended at 3 a.m. Tuesday.
Brown thanked the troopers on patrol, emergency dispatchers and alert motorists reporting erratic behavior for keeping revelers in and around Tulsa safe.

Improvements to I-35 through Norman to begin
NORMAN - Work is getting under way on a project that will change the look of the Interstate 35 interchange at Main Street in Norman while improving safety and increasing capacity.
Work will begin Monday on the $35 million project. The makeover is expected to be complete in less than two years.
The Main Street bridge over I-35 will be replaced with a new Single Point Urban Interchange, which includes longer entrance and exit-ramps at I-35 and a wider bridge.
The second of its kind in Oklahoma, the interchange will allow large volumes of traffic to negotiate the area with a single set of traffic signals on top of the bridge. The project will widen I-35 to six lanes from a half mile north of Main to a half mile south.
