Cooking classes can score big for Super Bowl

Start the new year off with some new recipes and improved cooking skills from one of the area's cooking classes.
And there are several options for refreshing your Super Bowl party menu.
Here are the classes for January.
Thursday
"Fit and Fresh with Chef Amanda Simcoe": 6:30-9 p.m., Galley Sink, $75.
Saturday
"Date Night Cocktail Party": Chili and lemongrass chicken, shrimp dumplings, coriander, sesame and lime tuna skewers, two cocktails, 6:30-9 p.m., Galley Sink, $75.
Tuesday
"Gourmet in Minutes": Roasted capons with porcini mash, asparagus with tarragon butter, caramelized pears in orange port sauce, 6:30-9 p.m., Galley Sink, $65.
"Art of Sushi": Come and join Master Chef Nobu of Fuji restaurant for an exciting evening of perfecting the art of sushi, 6:30-8:30 p.m., The Stock Pot, $45.
Jan. 9
"Chopped and Composed Salads": Composed salads are beautiful with colorful layers. Learn about the building blocks of salad dressings and knife skills, 6-8 p.m., Urban Kitchen, $55.
Jan. 10
"Appetizers & Party Pleasers with 3 Guys Smokin": The menu for the evening will include Zesty Snack Crackers, Chicago Style Chili, C's Wings, Drunken Bratwurst, Shrimp Dip and Spinach Souffle Stuffed Shrooms, 6:30-8:30 p.m., The Stock Pot, $45.
"Man Class with Chef Amanda Simcoe": Ladies, sign your man up for this class, featuring a menu he can learn to cook just for you, 6:30-9 p.m., Galley Sink., $75.

"Going Glutten Free": Trying to avoid wheat and gluten? Come taste some great recipes and sample gluten-free products to get you started, 11:30 a.m. and 7 p.m., Akin's.
Jan. 15
"Asian Fusion": Peppered pork with green tea noodles, Thai basil and lime rolls, salmon wontons and crème fraiche, apple and dark chocolate wontons, 6:30-9 p.m., Galley Sink, $75.
Jan. 16
"Flavors of Vietnam": PhoBo (beef noodle soup), pork and shrimp spring rolls served with a spicy peanut sauce, PhoGa (chicken noodle soup), 7 p.m., NeMar Noulles, $60.
"Just the Basics": Knife skills, organize your workspace and some building blocks of cooking, 6-9 p.m., Urban Kitchen, $85.

"French Country": Charcuterie and cheese board, mustard beef with mushroom cream sauce, crispy potatoes with sage and garlic, moscato poached pears, 6:30-9 p.m., Galley Sink, $75.
