Notes: Given that OU and West Virginia tied for second in the preseason Big 12 Conference poll, this becomes an interesting league-opening barometer for both teams.

The Sooners have a good-looking record and a No. 17 ranking. But they are still adjusting to their eight-player roster. They looked pretty good their last time out, a 79-57 rout of Cal State Northridge on Saturday.

Guard Aaryn Ellenberg pumped in 24 points, while reserve Portia Durrett contributed 14 points and 10 rebounds. Sharane Campbell, like Durrett a more important player thanks to all of OU's injuries, added 10 points, six rebounds and six assists.

The Sooners are going to become quite familiar with Big 12 rookie West Virginia eventually, but it's going to be a process.

The only time the two programs met was in 1989, when the Mountaineers left Norman with an 83-65 victory.

This year's Mountaineers are 8-3, with losses to LSU, Iowa and Duquesne.

They are coming off a 72-67 win over Appalachian State on Dec. 28. Christal Caldwell broke a 65-65 tie with just over two minutes remaining, and West Virginia avoided the upset.
