Catch the trailer for MTV’s new series.

This weekend, friends go “BuckWild” on MTV, the Sooners head to the Cotton Bowl to trample the Texas A&M Aggies, “Downton Abbey” finally returns and a Sapulpa police officer hits the gym on the new season of “The Biggest Loser.”

Looks like winning television, to me. Well, all except for that MTV reality TV show. Seen one group of young adults pandering to a camera, you’ve seen them all — there’s just a lot less spray tan and a lot more mudding in this one.

Go ‘Buckwild’

Trade the gang from “Jersey Shore” for West Virginians and you might have “Buckwild,” a new MTV series following a small group of “adventurous” friends in “small-town Appalachia.” MTV describes their lives as “loud and proud without restrictions.” So far, only one senator is asking MTV to cancel the show because it will portray “ugly, inaccurate stereotypes” of West Virginia. The series premieres at 9 p.m. Thursday on cable 39 with two-back-to-back episodes. Be prepared for language and birthday lickin’. Yeah, that’s what I said. Parental discretion advised.

Return to ‘Abbey’

The war is over, the engagement of Lady Mary and heir apparent Matthew is on but there are all sorts of troubles headed to “Downton Abbey” when it returns at 8 p.m. Sunday on PBS, channel 11.

The third season begins with the return of a pregnant Lady Sybil who eloped to Ireland with the chauffeur, more challenges for servants Anna and husband Bates who is still in prison, a new footman who just happens to be the nephew of scheming lady’s maid O’Brien and Lord Grantham doing all he can to hang onto Downton in the financiallystrapped economy of postwar England. Oh, and the amazing Shirley MacLaine joins as Lady Cora’s mother who will lock horns with Grantham’s mother, Lady Violet. Can’t wait.

Boomer Sooner

The Oklahoma Sooners take on the Texas A&M Aggies in the Cotton Bowl, airing live from Dallas at 7 p.m. Friday on Fox, channel 23, cable 5. The game will pit the No. 7-ranked Aggies against our No. 11-ranked Sooners at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Join Team Jones

Sapulpa Police officer David Jones joins the contestants on “The Biggest Loser,” returning at 8 p.m. Sunday on NBC, channel 2, cable 9. Jones, who lives in Kiefer, weighs in at 307 pounds and wants to get healthy, he told the Tulsa World. The married father of seven and grandfather of two will compete in the reality competition series that also includes, for the first time, three teenagers and marks the return of taskmaster trainer Jillian Michaels. The grand prize is $250,000. The kids will be placed on a team but will focus on getting healthy rather than weight loss. They will not be eligible for elimination and will not weigh in on camera. The series will regularly air at 8 p.m. Mondays starting next week.
