OSU places second at Southern Scuffle: Second-ranked Oklahoma State finished the Southern Scuffle in second place with 158 points, 20.5 points behind Penn State. Jon Morrison, Jordan Oliver and Chris Perry won individual titles for the Cowboys at 133, 149 and 174 pounds, respectively.

Morrison topped No. 5 Chris Dardanes, 3-2, for the 133 title, avenging an early season loss. Oliver earned his 100th career win and the Most Outstanding Wrestler award after overpowering No. 5 Cole VonOhlen to win the 149-pound bracket, 21-8. The top-ranked Perry earned the third Scuffle title with his riding time advantage to win, 7-6, over third-ranked Logan Storley for the 174-pound crown.

The Cowboys return to dual action on Jan. 13 when they wrestle Iowa inside Gallagher-Iba Arena at 2 p.m.

NHL, players continue talks: The NHL players' association delivered its latest counteroffer to the league Wednesday as the two sides try to resolve the lockout.

That makes four offers between the sides since the NHL restarted the negotiation process Thursday with a new contract proposal. What has become a major point of contention is how a player's pension will be funded.

A small group meeting on the pension issue was held Wednesday morning before the players' association presented its latest offer to the league during a one-hour afternoon meeting. A group of players arrived at the NHL offices in New York around 8 p.m. as the union and league prepared to meet again. A deal can't be done without a resolution on pensions.

Rays reach deal with Price: The Tampa Bay Rays have announced American League Cy Young Award winner David Price has agreed to a one-year deal for just over $10 million and avoided arbitration.

Price became the franchise's first 20-game winner in 2012, going 20-5 with an AL-best 2.56 ERA. He narrowly beat out Detroit's Justin Verlander for the honor that goes to the league's top pitcher.
