Tulsa-based PennWell Corp. has acquired a variety of databases and intelligence services focused on the electric power, oil and gas industries.
PennWell bought the online TransmissionHub and GenerationHub subscription and data segments from Aurora, Colo.-based Energy Central for an undisclosed sum. The transaction expands PennWell's information and mapping business for the power industry.
TransmissionHub offers daily and weekly updates and analysis of U.S. power transmission projects, while GenerationHub details developments on 6,000 power plants nationwide. The acquisition also brings in the database and subscription service Fossil Fuels Tracker, which is updated daily to provide coal plant data, including compliance information.
"TransmissionHub, GenerationHub and Fossil Fuel Tracker provide robust data, reports and intelligence that will pair perfectly with our best-in-class geospatial data for electric power and renewable energy offered by our MAPSearch business and our innovative online and mobile mapping platform called ENvision," PennWell CEO Robert F. Biolchini said in a statement.
MAPSearch General Manager Edward Metz will manage the new business, and seven Energy Central employees will join PennWell in the deal.
PennWell also acquired the TransForum East, TransForum West and TransForum Texas regional conferences. The most recent TransForum East was held last month in Arlington, Va., while TransForum West took place last summer in San Diego.
PennWell oversees trade magazines and produces conferences and exhibitions worldwide. It covers the oil and gas industry, power generation, dental economics, firefighting and numerous other professional fields.
