Lloyd Alfred Rice went to join the love of his life, Winnie and his lord on Christmas Eve at the age of 86. He was born January 18, 1926, in an old rock house on the banks of the Cottonwood River southeast of Emporia, Kansas to Edward Henry and Sarah Darlene Rice. Lloyd graduated Emporia High School in January 1944, immediately entering the United State Marine Corp. Sgt. Rice proudly served during WWII in the Pacific area, including action at Iwo Jima, Guam and again in the Korean War. Lloyd married Winifred Louise Getz November 8, 1946 and enjoyed almost 50 years with his best friend until her passing in 1995. Lloyd graduated from Kansas State University School of Engineering in May 1950. As a professional engineer, they moved to Tulsa. His work included Gould’s Pumps, Bryon Jackson, Williams Engineering, Williams Bros Waste Control and Sun Oil before retiring in 1988 having traveled much of the world on various projects. His life in Tulsa saw the building of many church families – St. Mark’s, St. Dunstan’s, St. Michael’s and All Saints as he and Winnie’s faith never wavered. Lloyd was an avid outdoor’s man, sport enthusiast and reliable friend to many. Lloyd is survived by his brother Milton, Sacramento, CA; sister Donna (Ken), Topeka, KS; his children Connie and Don (Jamie); grandsons Jeff and Mike (Erin); and great-granddaughter Brynlee; ten nieces and nephews and their families. Services are to be held at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, Broken Arrow. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.
