Letter to the Editor: Just wait

Very few people begrudge the slightly above average salaries and benefits given to our police officers and firefighters. They are, after all, willing to stand in harm's way on a daily basis for us, and such attitudes certainly deserve more than simple respect.
It has been suggested that the folks dedicated to the creation of the next generation of law-abiding and economically productive Americans should also assume the added responsibilities of assuring the safety of our children for the duration of that process.
I'm not bright enough to even offer an opinion on the merit of such an idea, but as a lifelong Okie familiar with the low level of salaries and the high level of disrespect afforded the teachers in our schools, I can tell you this - if you think Oklahoma is a "red" state now, just wait until you see the faces of state government officials when they receive a cost estimate to provide arms, training and a reasonable increase in compensation to the 50,000 teachers tasked with the "policing" of our children.
