Funk icon War to perform at River Spirit

California funk icon War returns to Green Country on Feb. 8 at River Spirit Event Center. It shares a bill with Michigan rocker Grand Funk Railroad.

Tickets start at $30, available at tulsaworld.com/riverspirit and at the River Spirit Casino Box Office, 8330 Riverside Parkway.

War's trademark sound blends funk, jazz, rock, rhythm and blues and reggae in hits including "Low Rider," "Cisco Kid," "Why Can't We Be Friends?," "The World is a Ghetto," "Slippin' into Darkness" and "Spill the Wine." The band's sold more than 50 million albums since the late 1960s.

Similarly, Grand Funk Railroad has been performing hits since the late '60s, with singles including "Inside Looking Out," "I'm Your Captain (Closer to Home)," "Feelin' Alright," "Gimme Shelter," "We're an American Band," "The Loco-Motion," "Some Kind of Wonderful" and "Bad Time."
