A Saturday Tulsa World Story incorrectly stated the highway closest to Raising Cane's planned location. It will be located near Interstate 44.

Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers is moving quickly to open a second Tulsa location after debuting here in December.

The Baton Rouge, La.-based chain has started construction on a restaurant building at 4810 S. Yale Ave., near Interstate 44. It is expected to open in May and employ about 50 people.

Raising Cane's plans to add several locations in the Tulsa area, said Bryan Brown, vice president of development. The company has six restaurants in metro Oklahoma City, and a total of 147 in 17 states.

Raising Cane's opened its first restaurant in 1996 near the Louisiana State University campus, selling a simple menu of only fried chicken strips, french fries, coleslaw, Texas toast and drinks.

The chain boasts that its chicken is not spicy or Cajun style, and its food is made to order. However, the company uses the fast-food model as opposed to the fast-casual format that has become popular with some chains.

The restaurant's first Tulsa-area location is at Woodland Hills Mall. It opened as part of an ongoing renovation of the mall's food court.

The company is spending about $900,000 to construct the 21,000-square-foot restaurant at 48th and Yale, according to building permits.

Raising Cane's is part of a handful of new buildings at the intersection, including a new Kum & Go convenience store and a hotel.
