A teenager accused of raping a woman near Pine Street and Sheridan Road last month has been charged.
Kevin Lamont Helms, 17, was charged as a youthful offender Friday with first-degree rape as well as assault and battery, Tulsa County District Court filings show. He is not in custody.
Investigators are still seeking information about a second assailant and a witness who apparently scared the men off, Tulsa Police Officer Leland Ashley said.
The victim was walking west on Pine Street near Sheridan Road around 3 a.m. Dec. 21 when two men began following her, the Tulsa World previously reported. Her attackers pushed the victim into the ditch and choked her with a necklace she was wearing until she lost consciousness.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Helms, who is described as black, 6 feet tall and 170 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.
Police said the other assailant was white, in his mid- to late 20s and with a similar build, but thinner. He had straight, short, blond hair and was wearing a baggy white T-shirt and light blue baggy jeans.
A motorist saw the attack and chased the men off, police said previously. Detectives are hoping to speak with that person about what they saw.
