Veterans thank Bill Christiansen and staff for their Dec. 21 Christmas celebration at Jones Airport, that included all veterans and was a reminder to all that this is still a country of God, family, duty and honor. The feeling of warmth, love and gratitude was displayed to all attending.
The families, with their children, students, little ones and babies added all that was needed to the warm feeling.
Wills Country Band brought back memories of Christmases of long ago, such as 1942 when Bing Crosby sang carols to us, such as "Silent Night," "White Christmas," etc., in North Africa.
Many came over to our tables to greet us and thank us for our service. This was very touching to us late 80s and early 90s guys, who don't get around very well any more.
Thanks again, Bill. And thank you for joining me when I attended Jenks high School on two occasions recently. An added thank you to Nancy Hauger who assisted us oldsters by escorting those of us who no longer drive at night or at all.
Editor's note: Andert is a World War II veteran.
