OWASSO – A fire that destroyed a building and four downtown businesses Monday caused at least $1.8 million in estimated damage, Deputy Fire Chief David Hurst said.

Investigators were unable to determine a cause of the blaze, which claimed a roughly a 13,220-square-foot structure at 76th Street North and Main streets.

“There was just so much fire load and so much heat that they couldn’t really speculate on what the cause was,” Hurst said Tuesday.

The blaze destroyed a pool supply store, automotive shop, glass shop and boxing club, he said. Hurst placed the damage to the building at roughly $1.3 million and the damage to the contents at about $528,000.

No one was injured in the fire, which broke out before daybreak and is believed to have started in the southwest corner of the structure.
