High school swimming notebook: Bartlesville boys starting strong

The Bruins earned a strong victory just before winter break by defeating Broken Arrow 113-56 and Fort Gibson 101-61 in Bartlesville. The boys team won 10 of 11 events, including the 200-yard medley relay and the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.
"Everything we do is to help us work toward state," said coach Jeff Allen. Mason McCauley (100 and 200 freestyle), Kyle Ward (200 IM and 100 butterfly) and Aaron Stanek (50 freestyle and 100 backstroke) picked up two wins each, and Alex Ward won the 100 breaststroke.
Fort Gibson girls carrying momentum: The defending Class 5A state champion Fort Gibson girls are off to a hot start, picking up early wins against Bartlesville and Broken Arrow. Kimber Goodwin, Whitney Stroup and Kyla and Hali Martin combined to give the Tigers a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay while Sara Nichols earned a win in the 100 backstroke. Leslie White (100 breaststroke and 200 IM), Kelsie Longpine (500 freestyle), Hannah Cantrell (50 freestyle) and Stroup (200 freestyle) finished in runner-up positions with state qualifying times.
Bixby boys have strong showing in Jenks: The Class 5A defending state champion Bixby boys took a strong showing into the winter break in a meet that also featured Jenks, Fort Gibson and Pryor. Cameron Boll, Ben Deibert, Ryan Knam, Bryan Lee and Logan Wagner were all part of winning relay teams for the Spartans. Deibert (50 freestyle) and Lee (100 freestyle) also picked up individual wins for Bixby.
