Letter to the Editor: Another opinion

I would like to reply to the letter ("It's about control," Jan. 2) that begins, "The people who want guns taken out of homes are asking for domination by government. Our forefathers made the right to bear arms for just the reason that this country should be governed by the people."
I remind those with his point of view, that the Second Amendment is a part of the Constitution written to establish the government we have. Our Constitution prescribes the methods by which laws can be established by the people's representatives in Congress assembled. The "well regulated militia," which is the Second Amendment's basis for the right to bear arms, is not a militia in opposition to the American government. That would be treasonous.
