Letter to the Editor: Repeal 2nd Amendment

The Second Amendment allows "the people to keep and bear arms." In the agrarian society of the late 18th century, when this amendment was adopted, guns were a necessity for private citizens to protect and defend their themselves, family and property. Today the country is urbanized and citizens rely upon the "free state" to provide a "well-regulated militia" to do this for them. Every community has an emergency 911 call center, which provides immediate assistance by armed police.
Arguments regarding the intent of our Founding Fathers are irrelevant. Times have changed. The Second Amendment in the 21st century is antiquated and should be repealed.
