A Delaware man was killed early Sunday in Pittsburg County when he became pinned while repairing the brake on his tractor-trailer, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

Michael Gardner, 53, of Milford, Del., exited the rig around 10:45 a.m. at the Candle Light Inn, at 8241 S. U.S. 69 in Savanna, to fix a rear trailer brake that had frozen due to the cold weather, the OHP said.

Gardner crawled under the trailer to free a wheel. After the brake released, the vehicle rolled over Gardner and dragged him 67 feet, the OHP said.

He was pinned for 10 minutes before being extracted by McAlester firefighters, troopers said.

Gardner was transported to McAlester Regional Health Center, where he later died of his injuries, troopers said.
