A man who was his teenage victim’s substitute teacher was sentenced Monday to 30 years in prison for lewd molestation and pornography crimes.
Steven Marcus Beard, 38, pleaded guilty to 10 counts of lewd molestation, all involving a girl whom Beard met through his job as a substitute teacher at a middle school in Sand Springs, according to police and court records.
Beard also pleaded guilty to one count each of making a lewd or indecent proposal to a child, possession of child pornography and furnishing an alcoholic beverage to a minor.
Tulsa County District Judge Bill Musseman sentenced him to consecutive prison terms of 10 and 20 years.
If those sentences stay intact, Beard must serve 25½ years before becoming eligible for parole.
Musseman will review the sentences in a year, when the judge could shorten the prison requirement.
Another count against Beard, an allegation that he manufactured child pornography, was dismissed.
The offenses occurred between July 22 and Aug. 9 of 2012 and involved a 14-year-old victim, records show.
The girl told a parent that she had sex with a substitute teacher at her school, Sand Springs police reported.
Police found explicit, sexually oriented text messages from Beard on the girl’s cellphone, police reported.
The lewd molestation counts involve accusations that Beard had sexual intercourse with the girl on multiple occasions.
Beard, who had been free on bond, was jailed Monday.
