CLAREMORE – The Rogers County Sheriff’s Office used humor to try to smoke out a marijuana grower Wednesday.

On its Facebook wall, the office posted a photo of a large trash bag full of pot, asking the owner to claim it.

“If this is yours or (you) know who it belongs to, come by the Sheriff’s Office and meet with one of courteous deputies that will be more than happy to talk to you,” the post read. “The owner can expect to be whisked away to a luxury suite with all the amenities that one can expect from a 5-star holding facility. "Do not worry about packing a bag since we provide the finest Egyptian cotton garments in a lovely shade of orange.

“You will also be greeted by other like-minded individuals that will make your stay as pleasant as possible while you wait to meet with one of our distinguished judges.”

The location of the marijuana, found on a dead-end road in the Oologah area, was called in Tuesday, Sheriff Scott Walton said. Three hours after the post went up on Facebook, it had 755 likes, 272 comments and had been shared 462 times.

“We just put it out there to be a little humorous,” Walton said.

Although the sheriff doesn’t expect the post to yield a surrender, he said it could yield some leads.

“We just thought we would try something like this because we’ve seen other people do it,” Walton said.

“It sends a message. I don’t know what kind,” he added.
