The Fort Gibson boys and girls each picked up wins and combined for a 121.5 point victory at last week's Hornet Invitational at Booker T. Washington. The defending state champion girls have won every invitational they have attended this season while the boys earned their first win. "They (the boys) have finished second at every invitational this season so for them to win it was a big momentum boost," said coach Connie Dean.
The girls were led by Hannah Cantrell, Hali and Kyla Martin, Sara Nichols, Whitney Stroup and Leslie White who were each part of two winning relay teams.
The boys were paced by Connor Schapp, Chris and James Huggins and Brandon Walker who combined to win the 400-meter freestyle relay. James Huggins (400 freestyle), Dalton Martin (200 individual medley) and Walker (100 and 200 freestyle) also picked up individual wins for the Tigers.
Owasso girls pick up win in Bartlesville: Megan Adams, Camari Close, Lori McDonald and Audrey McGaughey teamed up to win the 200-yard freestyle relay and lead the Owasso girls to a victory over Adair, Bartlesville, Ponca City and Pryor in a dual meet last week in Bartlesville.
"We've put in a lot of mileage and really started to gel as a team in the recent weeks," said Owasso coach David Estes.
The boys also had a strong showing, defeating 3-out of-4 opponents. Adam Blosser, Steven Dittmer, Jerod Dyke, Josh Goins, Hunter Hoffman and Tanner Linden were each a part of two relay teams that took third-place in state qualifying times.
Booker T. Washington finishes second at Invitational: Both Booker T. Washington squads earned a runner-up finish at last week's Hornet Invitational.
The boys team had an impressive showing by winning the 200-meter freestyle relay thanks to Evan Barton, Trevor Grant, Thomas Heinrich and Joseph Williams. The girls team registered a pair of runner-up relay finishes with Anders Broussard, Erin Chandler, Molly Morse, Addy Sanchez, Ashley Smith and McKenzie Wilson as the contributors.
