CATOOSA — Firefighters rescued a laborer working at a Port of Catoosa business after he fell 20 or 30 feet off of a ladder into an underground tunnel Thursday.
The Catoosa Fire Department requested assistance from the Tulsa Fire Department’s rescue task force around 9:15 a.m. after receiving a call that a 30-year-old man had fallen 20 to 30 feet while climbing into a tunnel below multiple grain silos, said Fire Capt. Stan May.
The worker was climbing down a ladder to clean the tunnel when he fell onto the concrete floor below, May said. The man was trapped for an hour while emergency responders worked to pull him up through a 2-foot-by-2-foot opening.
Medics with Pafford EMS treated the man at the scene. He was transported to a hospital via medical helicopter as a precaution, May said.
He was in stable condition at the time of transport and had no apparent major injuries.
