Country singer-songwriter Shawna Russell returns to the Tulsa area for a Saturday concert at The Vanguard, 222 N. Main St.
The Okemah native has played a lot of gigs in a lot of places, including the Tulsa State Fair in 2012, but this will be her first headlining gig at a club.
"It is a cool music room, and I am thrilled to have that opportunity to play there," she said. "I have worked the casino venues around Tulsa for a while ... I look forward to seeing some of my longtime Tulsa-area fans at the show - and to meeting new ones."
With a unique vocal style that has been compared to Stevie Nicks and Martina McBride and her skills on electric slide guitar, Russell blends country, Americana, pop and rock music into a show that appeals to a wide range of tastes and ages.
Guests must be at least 21.
Also scheduled are the Cole Porter Band and November Lilly. Doors open 7 p.m., showtime 8 p.m. General admission is $7. Get more information at tulsaworld.com/thevanguard
The country gal believes in family. So much so that her pops and uncle play in her band, which was recently signed to Warner Music Entertainment in Nashville.
She's moved "into another realm" of touring and bookings, she said in a phone interview shortly after she signed with her label last summer. The WME roster includes Blake Shelton, Reba McEntire, Rascal Flatts, Taylor Swift and Darius Rucker.
Her singles "Sounds Like a Party," "Waiting on Sunrise" and "Fire in the Desert" have all hit radio.
