Not even a full month into winter, Marilyn Ihloff is preparing for fall.
Already, plans are in the works for the annual Fall Show, a hair-and-fashion extravaganza thrown by her eponymous Ihloff Salon & Day Spa.
"It is looking like the best one ever," Ihloff said, adding that the event benefits the Arts & Humanities Council's arts education outreach.
For years, she's been celebrated for her philanthropy and business savvy, with her salon boasting three locations, in addition to being recognized by Salon Today as one of the 200 fastest-growing salons in America.
Her salons are at 8343 S. Memorial Drive, Utica Square and in Norman.
We caught up with Ihloff recently to see what else she has going on at the start of her new year.
... going to accomplish this year?
We have remodel projects in the planning stages for both Tulsa locations. I will continue to travel with my board position with our industry trade association, the Professional Beauty Association, to raise the bar for our industry.
On the personal side, it's all about the grandkids, with maybe an adult trip to the British Open thrown in.
... hoping to see happen in Tulsa during 2013?
I want to see our regional economy continue to thrive. I want to see healthy and educated citizens. And I wouldn't mind seeing some water in the river.
... reading right now?
"Wolf Hall," by English author Hilary Mantel.
... using in your hair today?
Today, I shampooed with Aveda Dry Remedy shampoo and conditioner ($24 each). I wanted to let my hair air dry, so I used Aveda Be Curly Style Prep ($24) followed by Be Curly Curl Enhancer ($22).
... listening to on your iPod?
Just lately, I've been having a lot of Beatles moments, but my favorite is to take long dog walks and shuffle my songs to see what comes up - often something I've been longing for and didn't even know it.
... making for dinner?
Baked stuffed shells with fennel and radicchio - yum.
... loving most about winter?
I like the change of pace. The early darkness brings a bit of a slowdown and hominess. Lots of reading, cooking - and all the good movies come out in the winter.
... enjoying most about being a grandmother?
Everything. I have seven perfect grandchildren, and each brings special gifts and delights. We have hysterical slumber parties every two weeks with the five of them that are old enough to participate - it is delightful madness.
