QuikTrip Corp. is one of America's 100 Best Companies to Work For, according to an annual report by Fortune Magazine, which listed the Tulsa-based chain for the 11th year in a row.

In an edition of the magazine set to hit newsstands next week, QuikTrip ranked 66th, while Chesapeake Energy and Devon Energy, both based in Oklahoma City, also made the list.

Silicon Valley technology giant Google Inc., known for its innovative perks and relaxed working environment, was deemed the best company to work for, followed by software firm SAS Institute in North Carolina and CHG Healthcare Services in Utah.

"Obviously for one to be considered for this is an honor, but to make it 11 years in a row kind of validates a lot of things that QuikTrip has always tried to do," said Mike Thornbrugh, a spokesman for the convenience store chain.

QuikTrip has more than 12,000 employees and 644 stores nationwide.

The chain also gets Fortune's praise annually for never having layoffs and for recruiting veterans to its workforce.

QuikTrip is on an explosive growth pace, adding 62 stores in the last year and more than 400 employees.

It has 36 stores under construction and entered the Carolinas market last year.

Thornbrugh said the company has garnered attention because of its low employee turnover, its higher pay than competitors and its policy of promoting nearly all of its employees from within.

"The rule has always been to give the employees the chance to grow and succeed," Thornbrugh said. "If there's a job opening anywhere in the company, our employees get the first opportunity at that job."

QuikTrip, a privately owned company, was founded in 1958 by Chester Cadieux as a grocery and general goods store on South Peoria Avenue. The owners didn't add gasoline until 1972 and have since transformed their stores into a sleek retail experience with dozens of drink options, hot foods and take-home dining options.

QuikTrip's No. 66 position is the same as 2012. Chesapeake dropped eight spots to No. 26 this year and Devon Energy fell one spot to 27th.
